 When and while

While: It is used to indicate that while you were doing an action, another person is doing another at the same time. 

Example:

I were giving a shower while my mom cooked.

When: It is used with actions that intersect or interrupt the first action or the continuous action or action that was in progress. When can be used for specific actions.
